the he-farm technology

A set of technologies for prevention, monitoring, mitigation, recovery or training covering all channels will be developed in HE- FARM with the objective of improving biosecurity in farms.

These technologies will help to validate the Experimental Channel- resolved Biosecurity Assessment Methodology. The selected technologies include original new technologies for biosecurity that will be validated for the first time in this project, as well as, other existing technologies:

1. Integrated air-borne pathogen for Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and Avian Influenza (AI) smart sensors

 The merging of three established technologies for air capture, concentration, and detection will be employed to develop advanced smart sensors capable of fast detecting pathogens in both air and water (developed in this project).

2. Sanitization by low-toxicity biocides and dynamic aggregation

Research will be conducted to discover and cultivate environmentally friendly biocides, which will be applied using a rapid dynamic aggregation technology (developed in this project).

3. Low-toxicity insecticides and repellents and dynamic aggregation application and Environmental Friendly Insect and Arachnid barrier and prevention techniques

Similarly to the search for biocides, the development of low-toxicity insecticides and repellents will be pursued to establish protective barriers in farms, utilizing the dynamic aggregation technology (developed in this project).

4. Rapid Vehicle decontamination station

Efforts are underway to achieve rapid decontamination of trucks and vehicles through the development of an advanced decontamination station. It is crucial to effectively decontaminate trucks coming from various farms between each trip. This technology aims to explore optimal procedures that minimize time, cost, and environmental impact, while ensuring high effectiveness in decontamination processes (developed in this project).

5. Biosecure and Environmental-Friendly HVAC

A heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) prototype will be designed, developed, and installed in a farm to enhance animal conditions and prevent the entrance of airborne pathogens. This system will utilize new technologies to dynamically collapse airborne particles, ensuring improved air quality within the farm premises  (developed in this project).

6. Biosecure and Environmental-Friendly Hall

A dedicated hall will be constructed to incorporate the proposed decontamination technology from this project. This hall will serve as the designated entrance for both staff and visitors, ensuring their thorough decontamination and facilitating safe movement within the farm  (developed in this project).

7. Portable Low-cost test-equipment for measuring microbiological metabolism

The previously developed device for measuring microbiological activity, utilizing the redox potential measurement technique, will undergo miniaturization to enhance portability. This will enable the device to measure the quantity of microbial activity in samples conveniently. The redox potential, being a complex indicator of the physiological state of microbial cultures, offers valuable insights for qualitative and quantitative determination of microbial activity. (developed in this project from previously developed non-portable prototype).

8. Cold plasma water depuration

Currently Alfredo Zolezzi Foundation (AZF) and Copernicus Integrated Solutions for Biosafety (CISBR), developed and patented a breakthrough technology for sanitization of water using cold plasma (PWS), capable of eliminating 100% of viruses and bacteria through the transformation of a low-energy continuous flow of liquid water into a plasma chamber. In the present project this technology will be used and validated for the farm field (developed in previous projects but not yet assessed for farms).

9. Usage and training procedures and manuals

Different usage and training procedures will be developed based on the assessment methodology and mitigation technologies developed in the project. These procedures will serve as guidelines for utilizing and implementing the technology effectively, ensuring proper usage and training for individuals involved in these tasks.(developed in this project).

10. At least other three Prevention, Monitoring, Mitigation, Recovery or Training technologies

Provided by manufacturers (air purifiers, biocides, etc…) to be selected during the project in an open call. involved in these tasks.
